Jake Myers is a College Persistence Officer with Delaware College Scholars. He maintains regular contact with all scholars in college - celebrating their accomplishments, helping to troubleshoot obstacles and documenting their progress on the way to successful graduation. We asked him eleven questions to learn more about him and his role with DCS.
As Delaware’s top decision makers work to balance a state budget that has an almost $400 million deficit, one thing is clear – funding reductions are happening and government agencies, nonprofits and businesses alike are going to share in the sacrifice.
In a setting as idyllic as it is prestigious, a small group of Delaware students is submerging itself in a new world this summer, living three weeks at the private boarding school St. Andrew's while preparing to apply for and go to college.
We are off to a fast start to the third year of the Delaware College Scholars Program!
The week was filled with excitement and emotions as we welcomed the return of Cohort 2 and said hello to our new Cohort 3 scholars. At the same time, DCS bid farewell to our pioneer group of Cohort 1 graduates. The graduation for Cohort 1 was an amazing experience – we will highlight all of the festivities in a separate newsletter to give it the attention and detail that Cohort 1 deserves. But for this first newsletter of 2016, we would just like to give a quick update on our first week.
It is hard to accept that we have gone through 3 weeks of DCS. It feels as if it our scholars just moved in yesterday. Time has truly flown by. I am proud of both cohorts for the hard work that they put into the program during our time together - and rewarded each with some well deserved free/fun time during their overnight college trips.
